sumba hospitality foundation program

SUSTAINABILITY, BAMBOO AND NATURAL DYES

6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTS

ABOUT SUMBA

Sumba the wild one, is a true gem and has a lot of secret and surprises to offer to the curious eyes of the people who dare to open their hearts to this mysterious island. From the deserted white sand beaches, wild horses, and hidden waterfalls to the traditional megalithic tombs and meters high sacred thatched roofs, the uniqueness of Sumba has charmed many adventurous spirits. Moreover, this is where you will find the most interesting weaving and natural dyeing techniques and precious Sumbanese IKATS, well known for their intricate story telling motifs and vibrant colors.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This program is curated for families and first timers in Sumba, with a strong interest in being introduced to the wild island, its culture, architecture and nature, as well as the natural dye practices and local weaving techniques, while staying in an inspiring, comfortable environment - the Sumba Hospitality Foundation - where education, social impact and sustainable practices are at the center of the school’s vision.
The school was founded by Inge De Lathauwer, a Glion Hotel School alumni with a true heart and vision. Her TEDx Talk is online here.
The hotel school is situated near the Tambolaka airport and during these 6 days we will explore mostly the North and North West part of the island while enjoying our natural dye workshops in the school campus, tough by a Sumbanese family of weavers and dyers from East Sumba, who will travel West just to meet you…
